Nunavut faces a significant housing shortage, impacting social and economic
well-being across the territory. Although housing construction has
accelerated, some communities now lack suitable land for new homes.
Collaborative action is crucial to secure appropriate, build-ready land to
address this growing need.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The Land for Homes Initiative is guided by three Inuit cultural principles that support Collaboration, Innovation, and Environmental Stewardship:
Reliable land information is essential at every stage of land planning, land
preparation, and land administration. It is also fundamental to effective decision
making during land assessment and selection for new homes. Land for Homes
provides accessible tools, data, and guides to help housing partners in the supply
and selection of land.
Collaboration and partnerships are key to addressing Nunavut’s housing challenges. By working together, we can make meaningful progress toward creating homes and improving quality of life across the territory.
L4H STAKEHOLDERS
Key stakeholders include Nunavut's twenty-five municipalities, the Regional
Inuit Associations and Inuit Development Corporations, and the Government of
Nunavut Department of Community and Government Services (CGS).
